How STAR Reading works

A STAR Reading test typically takes about 10 minutes. This means that you can quickly track the ability and progress of your whole class.
STAR Reading is 'computer-adaptive' so it will adjust the difficulty of the test based on the reading ability of the child.
The program provides teachers with a fast, accurate assessment of the reading level of the child and shows the range of book levels, which will challenge each pupil correctly.
Because it gives you a snapshot of the reading ability of your pupils, it will clearly show the growth achieved since the last assessment.
STAR Reading gives you an equivalent reading age for each pupil and also a National Curriculum Level in reading*, both of which help you to identify the child's current ability level.
